Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range near Barcelona, in Catalonia, Spain. It is part of the Cordillera Prelitoral Catalana. The main peaks are Sant Jeroni, Montgrós and Les Agulles. It is known for hosting the Benedictine abbey of Santa Maria de Montserrat, where the sanctuary of the Virgin of Montserrat is located
The Natural Reserve is home to a great variety of vertebrates, thanks to the forest masses that, combined with the rocks, create ideal conditions for the development of these species. The fauna is composed of about 200 species of vertebrates and numerous endemic species of cave-dwelling invertebrates
